I thought I'd repost this " Mission Statement " because it occurs to me that as members come online to this separate section of the club website they might have missed the first post I made as website administrator 2 years ago as it concerns the interactive NSWFC Members " Club Online ".

Please feel free to comment or ask questions concerning any of this particular statement or any other statement or post I make for that matter , keeping in mind that they are my opinions . It was only meant to explain how I thought these pages should be developed and to set some basic guidelines as to how discussion here should be civil in nature . Comments will be resticted to only registered logged on members at this time though .

Welcome to the NSWFC MEMBERS “CLUB ONLINE “.

My name is Tim Hargreaves. I'm glad you found your way here .For those of you who haven't met me yet down at the club I've been charged with administrating the NSWFC website at the December 2006 club meeting. The homepage is at http://nswfc.net . I feel privileged to get this site up and working for you folks. I will try to keep this introduction to “Club Online“and the concept thereof brief and to the point ... but I know myself well enough to say that this could be an impossible task .. ha... If you only knew how fast I typed you'd appreciate that statement.

The “mission” I have in mind for this website extension is that the general membership have a venue for informal communication , shared fishing and club event related images, stories, and reports solely between club members and associates. So if and when the e-board and full membership actually conclude that an online community application such as this would serve the club members well then we will all make this site an inviting and informative place to visit . There are several modules and advanced user features that can be employed later with this content management system and I will try to test and implement any of those we all agree could be useful.

I'm going to put this out here right now though ... that I think club politics and ill-stated feelings between any members will have no place on these pages. I think that club rules and policies already have a complete, sound and democratic protocol by way of the executive board, general membership meetings and the monthly newsletter. Yeah that too ... I'm not attempting to take the thunder out of the fishing reports you already get via the newsletter ... Only to supplement reports for those of us that wouldn't mind getting first hand knowledge of the fishing action on a daily basis. The private messaging system running up on “Club Online” will always be private so as to not give out explicit fishing knowledge to Internet “trolls” that can't seem to find their own fish. As a matter of fact ... I think I will make a fishing reports page that is not accessible to the general public at all . That makes more sense I think.

I'm not talking about censorship... just decent human discussion and interaction. If proper etiquette needs to be further explained we will do so. Users here will always be able to edit or delete their own content. You will come to see that this is the beauty of this software. The website administrator (myself) and executive board members or delegated moderators will always have access rights to modify and delete users comments also. So please “play nice” . Mainly because I'm a relatively new member to NSWFC I'm going to put any questionable content into a moderators queue before publishing the page in question . And ... personally speaking, I'm very comfortable with my original stated mission anyway. I'd rather just try to keep the site clean and useful to the membership.

So .. “lets get er done“.

See I told ya .... I could run on and on ... Actually I do have and will think of more to say probably. ...Especially after I get some more input from all of you as to how we can make application work better for all of us.

Oh yeah I have an idea .... The first page of the CLUB ONLINE site will always have the picture of the most recent submitted and dated angler with his/her fish as a posted report. The last picture I have is of me in November 2006 that you see now .... So if you wanna get me off the front page send me the photo ....Hows that for incentive?

User Guide :

Drupal 5.1.x is the version we are using here at NSWFC.net .. Throughout this guide we will refer to this site as the nswfc "Club Online"

Welcome! This guide describes how to get started using Club Online , a Drupal-powered web-site. The guide covers basic topics such as registering for an account, logging in, changing your account settings, and creating content.

Drupal is a content management system. Its goal is to help users compose and present web-site content such as articles, photos, and other content types. So , Club Online is a "dynamic" system; rather than forcing users to specify a fixed, pre-declared arrangement of content, Club Online takes care of the details of how information is arranged and presentated, and lets users focus on the actual content to be displayed.

Most of the content on Club Online ,a Drupal-based site (the text of this page, for example) is stored in a database. Text and images are submitted by filling in forms via a web browser. When visitors view a page, Club Online gets the relevant bits of content from the database and composes all of the components of the page in a template. This makes it easy to quickly add or change content, without requiring knowledge of HTML or other web technologies on the part of the person providing the content.

Depending on the configuration of the Club Online site and the user-roles you play with respect to this site, you may be allowed to contribute or edit content. Fortunately, Club Online is designed to make this relatively easy. Very little technical knowledge is assumed. Though details may vary with a site's configuration, the basic process involves these steps:

register with the site
log in by typing the user name and password supplied you in the registration step, and
create content such as articles and stories

This user guide will explain these steps and familiarize you with the basic information you need to use Club Online successfully.

This section can also serve as a foundation for a set of instructions customized to our sites specific needs.

NSWFC Family Day 2007

Start: // - 12:am

Family day will be held on Sunday July 22. We will have same company do the Pig this year as last. So it will be delicious. Tickets can be purchased from any e-board member. Ticket prices are set at $22. Menu will be: Pork, Chicken, Baked Beans, coleslaw and Potato salad. Please bring deserts to be shared by all. Kids will have hotdogs provided free.

The club auction will also be held at the clubhouse. Please bring items to be donated and auctioned off. We need lots of great offerings this year and are counting on the membership to come through. Kid’s lunch will be served at noon followed by the adults at 1pm.

Heres the whole story .....

While Frank was watching Judge Judy one afternoon .... he looked out the window and saw birds working over at the "hole" ...

He jumped into his waders and ran out to the beach where he noticed all the birds had all dispersed . Saying to himself " hmm ... that was a quick blitz " ... he returned to the recliner inside to watch Judge Jackson ... and sat down only to see the birds working again ... On closer inspection he notices the window has dirt spots all over ... go figure . Just another window of opportunity Frank ?

Then he figures he likes beating up on flat things so much he just couldn't resist this...

Thanks Frank ... The flatties will be back in season soon enough ... and remember we have spies everywhere ... Just think if Mike only knew how to shoot video segments ...Ha

Insert an Image : How To

First , if you intend on uploading an image to nswfc.net server you will have to resize your image on your local computer .

The default maximum image upload size is 900X900 pixels .

That being said it's a good idea to probably resize your pics to 500 pixels wide or less so it will display correctly on a browser set with 800x600 resolution and wont break the nswfc.net/online layout .

If you are having trouble absorbing any of this you can go to the forum and ask for help . Just in case you don't know this .... the text items in posts (such as "forum" in the last sentence ) that are displayed in blue letters are links to info you should check out . They are clickable links. Also I get a bit more in depth with an explanation : click here

Note : Please remember to preserve the aspect ratio of the original image when you resize your picture . In other words if your original image is 1000 x 800 pixels ... resize to 500 x 400 pixels .

You can upload both sizes and link the larger fullsize pic to the smaller image inserted into your post . Use the insert/edit link (chain icon ) pointed at (red arrow) below to try this .

Images larger than the default max size are subject to a moderators approval .

Pictures at 500 pixels wide look quite good on the website and are the preferred pixel widths used here .

Now lets INSERT AN IMAGE

open up a Create Content item . Examples : New Forum Topic , Book Page , Fishing Reports , Story , etc

click on Insert/Edit Image icon : red arrow points there in the sceenshot below >

at *** "Image URL" *** click the browse icon beside it ...

OK next you will see a pop up image browser .... where you can browse to a file on your local computer and upload that file or

click on an image already listed or residing on nswfc.net server.

When you see the file you want to insert ....

there you will click "add" (operations) ... usually highlighted green if you just uploaded the image .

You may have to scroll down .

You should now see file loaded into the Insert/Edit Image applet now.

Type in an image description for for your image (optional).

click on "insert" .... It should be presented in the posted text area now .
